The pilot episode of Syfy's new zombie show Z Nation, "Puppies and Kittens", is available to download for free through iTunes right now.

"Z Nation depicts the epic struggle to save humanity after a zombie apocalypse. The series is a dynamic ensemble drama that plunges viewers into a fully-imagined, post-zombie America, and takes them on adventures with a diverse group of richly-drawn characters. The cast includes Tom Everett Scott (Beauty and the Beast, Southland), DJ Qualls (Road Trip, Supernatural), Michael Welch (The Twilight trilogy), Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), Anastasia Baranova (The Darkness II), Russel Hodgkingson (Big Fish) and Keith Allan (Rise of the Zombies). Z Nation starts three years after the zombie virus has gutted the country, and follows a team of everyday heroes tasked with transporting the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California - where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood. Although the antibodies he carries are the world’s last, best hope for a vaccine, he hides a dark secret that threatens them all. With humankind’s survival at stake, the ragtag band embarks on a journey of survival across three thousand miles of rusted-out post-apocalyptic America."

The group of survivors are broken apart and sent on divergent paths, unsure of everyone else’s fate as they are exposed to new dangers, new enemies, and heartbreaking choices. Syfy's Z Nation Gets A Promo Trailer

The old saying goes "don't throw the baby out with the bath water."

That is unless the baby is a zombie. And that is exactly what we get in Syfy's exciting promo for Z Nation, their new zombie series. You just can't go wrong with zombie babies.

Produced by the Asylum, the same company behind Sharknado, Z Nation presents us with the aftermath of an extinction level event that has turned most of the world's population into zombies. There is no cure for what turned the infected but our heroes, played by Tom Everett Scott, Harold Perrineau, and DJ Qualls, come across the only person known to have survived a bite from a zombie.

Their mission: get him across the country to a lab in California.  Alive, of course, but it won't be an easy road trip with a nation of zombies in the way.

Z Nation launches in September.

The Walking Dead Scores Two EMMY Nominations

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced their nominees for EMMY awards this morning and, shockingly, The Walking Dead did not receive a nomination for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Miniseries, Movie, or a Special.

However, the Lifetime movie Anna Nicole did.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Other nominees in the prosthetic makeup category are American Horror Story: Coven, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and The Normal Heart.

It also did not receive a nomination for Outstanding Special and Visual Effects. Those nominations went to Almost Human, COSMOS: A SpaceTime Odyssey, Game of Thrones, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The 100.

Oddly, The Walking Dead received a nomination in the Outstanding Special and Visual Effects in a Supporting Role category, with acknowledgement going to Victor Scalise (VFX Supervisor), Darrell Dean Pritchett (Special FX Supervisor), Matt Robken (VFX Producer), Gary Romey (VFX Coordinator), Martin Hilke (Lead 2D Artist), Diego Galtieri (Senior 2D Artist), Michael Cook (Lead CG Artist), William L. Arance *Senior CG Artist), and Dylen Vasquez (2D Artist). They're up against Black Sails, Da Vinci's Demons, Hawaii Five-O, Mob City, and Vikings.

The Walking Dead also received a nod for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series, with acknowledgement going to Jerry Ross (Supervising Sound Editor), Michael Baber (Music Editor), Tim Farrell (Sound Effects), Lou Thomas (Dialogue Editor), and Clayton Weber (Foley Artist). They're up against Black Sails, Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, and Game of Thrones.

The Walking Dead did not receive any acting, directing or writing nominations nomination.

Morgan Freeman Narrates The Zombie Apocalypse

For his show on the Science Channel, Through The Wormhole, Morgan takes on the living dead in an episode called "Is A Zombie Apocalypse Possible?".

"It is a nightmare that has stalked us for centuries: hordes of human beings transformed into mindless, cannibalistic monsters. Could this civilization-ending nightmare become reality? Scientists have discovered pathogens that turn insects into the walking dead. New strains of viruses are attacking humans every day. Mathematicians have calculated the likelihood of surviving a zombie virus outbreak: they’re not hopeful. Now neuroscientists are discovering how easy it is for us to lose conscious control of our bodies. Are we at risk of becoming puppets? If we were in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, would we even know it?"

Through The Wormhole airs on the Science Channel on Wednesdays at 10pm ET.
