Dead Island 2 Pushed Back To 2016

Fans of Dead Island are going to have to wait a little longer for the game's sequel. Deep Silver announced yesterday that they were going to take extra time developing Dead Island 2, pushing back its Spring 2015 release to 2016, in order to get it done right.

"We have always set ourselves a big goal for Dead Island 2: to create the sequel that takes Dead Island to the next level. A game that takes what our fans tell us they love about Dead Island – multiple different characters to play with, co-op, and turning a paradise setting into a zombie slaughter melee – and a game that adds a ton more content and combat options on top of that.

And we wanted to have all of that that done for release in Spring 2015.

We have been looking at the game long and hard, and we have decided we didn’t reach that goal we set out to achieve quite yet. This is why we have decided to delay Dead Island 2 to 2016.

Right now we are focusing purely on development, and we will have more info to share at a later stage.

We know that our fans will be disappointed by this news, but by giving Dead Island 2 more time we are confident that everyone will get a better game to play as a result."

Win A Zombie Wedding!

Attention UK brides and grooms: Want your marriage to be dead before it even starts?

Video game maker Deep Silver will give you the chance to kill your wedding dream as you walk down the aisle in the Dead Island Riptide Zombie Wedding Sweepstakes!

From their press release:

Deep Silver today announced the search for a bride and groom for a zombie-themed wedding, which will become the centerpiece of the UK launch celebrations for the new Dead Island Riptide videogame, released later this year.

The search for two engaged Dead Island superfans who will be zombified for a Dead Island twist on a traditional beach wedding ceremony takes in every cemetery, grave and crypt
the length and breadth of the UK. In return for becoming the official Dead Island Riptide zombie bride and groom, Deep Silver will host a Dead Island Riptide-themed zombie wedding ceremony and send the winning undead couple on a luxury Caribbean honeymoon.

Applicants are encouraged to record a short video message to YouTube explaining why they are the ideal undead candidates for the ceremony, and to share the link via the official Dead Island Riptide Zombie Wedding page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/DeadIslandRiptideZombieWeddingUK).

A panel from Deep Silver will then review all applications and contact a shortlist of candidates to see if they have what it takes for the ultimate undead accolade. The closing date for applications is appropriately Valentine’s Day, 14th February 2013, with the winning couple being announced at the beginning of March.

Amy Namihas, Head of Marketing & Public Relations, Deep Silver UK, said:
“For the launch celebrations of Dead Island Riptide we wanted to do something different, and a zombie wedding with all the trappings certainly fits the bill and has not been done on this scale before. We’re excited to see the application videos from our prospective undead bride and groom and look forward to hosting the wedding of the fear.”

Gamers will be able to take on the zombie hordes once again when Dead Island Riptide is published by Deep Silver in UK on 26 April 2013 for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and for Windows PC.

Trailer: Dead Island Riptide

When all hope is lost, the riptide leads straight back to Dead Island...

"Furious monsoon rainstorms have laid waste to the island of Palanai in the Banoi archipelago, waters have risen and caused a flood disaster -- because of this and the raging zombie invasion, a rescue mission for the survivors seems to be without prospect of success. All hope seems to have been lost for the surviving humans..."

Deep Silver's Dead Island Riptide will be release in 2013.

Lionsgate Snaps Up Dead Island

Great news for zombie film fans as it looks like another high profile studio film is on the way now that Lionsgate has acquired the movie rights to Dead Island.

In a press release today, Lionsgate's Joe Drake said:

"Like the hundreds of journalists and millions of fans who were so passionate and vocal about the Dead Island trailer, we too were awestruck.  This is exactly the type of property we're looking to adapt at Lionsgate - it's sophisticated, edgy, and a true elevation of a genre that we know and love. It also has built in brand recognition around the world, and franchise potential."

The Dead Island film will be produced by Sean Daniel (The Mummy, Tomstone, Dazed and Confused) and Stefan Sonnenfeld.

The game has sold over two million copies so far and is available now for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

If the movie is half as good as this game trailer, then we're in for something great...

However, all good things must soon come to an end - and the picturesque resort falls into madness, carnage and chaos after a mysterious and contagious zombie outbreak claims its once peaceful atmosphere. Cut off from the rest of the world, only four individuals who strangely find themselves immune to zombification have the power to protect the remaining survivors from the horrors of the island, to discover what's really going on and find a way to escape before their own fatal ends."

Dead Island is available now for Xbox 360, Playstation 360 and PC.

Dead Island's FB Goes 17+ Tomorrow

Unfortunately for younger fans, the Dead Island Facebook page is going dark for them tomorrow as implements an age restriction due to the anticipated ESRB rating for the game itself.

Posted on their Facebook page today:

Hi Dead Island Fans,
Because of the upcoming rating by the ESRB we have to implement an age gate on our facebook page. Since we have an expected age rating of M (17+), this group will be only accessible to fans older than that starting tomorrow. Thanks for your understanding!
